The present book Readings in English Poetry is designed according to the prescribed syllabus of M.J.P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly as per National Education Policy 2020. The study material in the book has been judiciously planned for making the students acquainted with various forms, stanza patterns and poetic devices used in English poetry. A chronological account of the development of English poetry during different periods of English literary history would be beneficial for a comprehensive understanding of the odyssey of English poetry through successive ages. The most-celebrated poems of the representative poets spanning from 16th to the 20th century would develop an insight into the changing trends in English poetry. Last but not the least significant has been the effort to analyze and appreciate poetry on the basis of the principles of Practical Criticism. A systematic arrangement of the study material with text, glossary, exercises and other essentials of learning would definitely enlighten the learners.
